What is Equanimity?

“Equanimity is neither apathy nor indifference: you are warmly engaged with the world but not troubled by it. Through its nonreactivity, it creates a great space for compassion, loving-kindness, and joy at the good fortune of others.”

~ Rick Hanson

Why Equanimity?

A lot of the time the troubles of our mind and the world can discourage us from moving forward. The overwhelm can be so crippling that we become frozen, unproductive, and find ourselves at a loss. It is hard to see beyond the overwhelm. With the practice of equanimity, we can see that our situation is hard while being open to other possibilities and clarity. By offering a simple message to ourselves, “Yes, this sucks,” or, “Yes, this hurts,” we can become aware of our reality while softening the edge of our reality. The practice of equanimity gives us strength and resilience to be in what is difficult. My IFS sessions include equanimity practices offering clients space between overwhelm and what is possible.
